MISSOURI STOKES ALLIANCE FOR MINORITY PARTICIPATION

UMSL is a member of the NSF – funded Missouri Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, whose goal is to increase the number of minority graduates in STEM and increase their successful advancement to graduate study. Seven institutions in Missouri are members of the Alliance including Harris-Stowe State University (lead institution), University of Missouri – Columbia, Washington University, Truman State, Lincoln University, and University of Central Missouri. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry actively participates in the program and Chemistry majors are among the group of participating scholars. Professor Stine serves as the Site Coordinator at UMSL and works closely with Professor Paulette Isaac-Savage (UMSL co-PI) and Sylvia Harris from the College of Arts and Sciences. Professor Bauer has also worked with organizing events, such as the one week Summer Sophomore academy that took place on the UMSL campus in summer 2018 and featured tours of Sigma Aldrich, the Missouri Botanical Garden, Danforth Plant Science Center, and the Challenger Learning Center as well as many forums and discussions featuring prominent local minority scientists.
